A Court Of Thorns and Roses Series by Sarah J Maas

BOOK REVIEW

This series has my whole entire heart!! Every single part of it!! It is one of my newer absolute staples. If there is a series, I recommend to someone, this is the one!! Its fall proof in my opinion.

In saying that, in true Sarah J Maas fashion - the first book dosen't give all the Easter eggs in one basket. A Court of Mist and Fury is where it's wings truly spread, it had quite the wingspan you could say!!

A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) follows the story of Feyre who kills a 'beast' and as a consequence finds herself pulled away from her family to live with Tamlin a fae High Lord who she detests with a passion....or does she. Their love story evolves as the true reason for being brought to the Fae Lands is discovered. That in its simplest form is how the story begins and by no means where it ends. It is only the beginning to the story of what is to come in Prythian and how quickly the people Feyre holds dearly will change.

I did find it a little slow to begin with in ACOTAR, I found it very similar to The Hunger Games, as Feyre hunting with her bow and arrow to provide for her family, thankfully that didn't last for long! Once Tamlin appears and brings her into Prythian things begin to evolve. As her captors begin to grow on Feyre, you begin to love them with just as much passion.

This was the first Sarah J Maas I read, it has surely raised my expectations for any of the books I read in the future. I thoroughly enjoyed Thorns and Roses but it was in A Court of Mist and Fury that my undying love for this world blossomed!!

SPOILERS AHEAD

The snippets we got of Rhys in the first book I by no means hated him, despite his cold persona he portrays to the world. Rhys and Feyre's relationship arch is THE BEST love story I have ever read!! The small jokes, the banter, it is an enemies to friendship arch in all the best ways. Rereading it recently, I caught all the times the bond and Rhys understanding of what they were shone through. Rhys pain and angst every time she cut him unintentionally unaware of what they could be to each other, tore me apart and put me back together at the same time. Sarah is the master of fitting in small things, that have huge meaning to the story later on. The thing I enjoyed about ACOMAF was the fact it also didn't centre around a massive battle - yes that is the end result in this series.

But the second novel was highly sought around the relations with the other Fae Courts and understanding the evil that was to come. With the prominent storyline also centring around Feyre's change of heart and post traumatic stress of the demons of under the mountain.

'To the stars who listen and the dreams that are answered'

Velaris is the world I wish I was apart of. It took me back to the undeniably stunning Amalfi Coast with the towns built over mountain scapes. Just as Rhys couldn't get anymore perfect, he has this beautiful kept secret that he sacraficed himself for time and time again.

Which brings me to the Inner Circle the friendship groups to end all others. Cassian and Azriel are the two brothers that are polar opposites but the same in all the ways that matter. I look forward to more on Azriel's story, I feel there is soo much more behind those shadows that no one knows!! Amren is the firecracker that every friendship group needs to deliver the hard truths and rally the forces together. Then there is Mor who somehow manages to simultaneously pull them apart (cough **Azriel) and pull them back together the same time. Every single scene with any of these beauties in it, is impossible to hate! It felt like you were apart of the group as they gathered together for the first time at the House of Wind, soo eerily similar to nights spent with those you treasure most, laughing over the past and creating inside jokes!

A Court of Wings and Ruin starts off with my heart in tethers having just endured the shock of what happened at the end of book 2. Feyre now fully capable and strong willed taking charge of her powers in a battle for the Court and the people she loves most. Perfection is the way I would describe it, the perfect mixture of the romance between storyline and relevance. I won't delve any further and leave the reset for you to dig into yourself, but the series brings every single tiny element together in a mind blowing fight to the finish. And just when you think the good guys are about to prevail wouldn't be Sarah J Maas without a massive spanner to have your heart in tethers just when you thought not. If the massive tattoo on my back (found on my instagram if your interested)...dosen't highlight how dearly I love thesecharacters and this world, I don't know what does.
